Description
Pineapple is a fascinating fibre. As a leaf bast fibre it is strong and textured and breaks in with softness. Agriculturally, once the fruit has been harvested, the leaves are usually considered waste and cleared or burned. Using the long fibres from the leaves of the pineapple plant means the land can be used twice and the farmers get a ‘bonus’ crop. I’m a big fan! I think this would be great for homewares and our tester wove it into a gorgeous shawl.
