Yarn lovers of south London, we’re hiring an assistant shop manager. We’re an independent business with strong values and passion for what we do and we’re looking for a new employee! We pay above the London living wage and value our staff enormously. 

 Role Title:

Shop Assistant Manager (online shop)

Hours & Pay:
Base 3 hours/day M-F, sometime between 7am and 1pm – time flexible
Scope to increase to 20+ hours per week as needed.
Plus the required 28 days paid annual leave including bank holidays, and workplace pension contributions.

Start date:

Approximately 9th-18th September – somewhat flexible and we can discuss.

Role description:
The Shop Assistant Manager is responsible for independently managing the day to day operations of the Shop, including:

-Processing, booking, packing, and putting out orders for courier collection
-Receiving and unpacking shipments and deliveries
-Staying in fluid communication with owner via messenger as needed during work hours E.g. for changes to occasional orders, to reorder supplies, etc.
-Managing workshop / restocking shelves for quick packaging / keeping tidy and organised.
-Processing any refunds/credits/changes via webshop as needed
-File invoices/documents/etc. and other record keeping
-Making yarn samples/skeins, labelling products
-Maintaining stock & supply inventories
-Become confident and knowledgeable in product details and terminology (plenty of support provided!)
-Respond to customer emails appropriately and help customers as needed.

-Extremely detail oriented & accurate – mixed up orders are expensive to fix!
-Able to work alone and independently
-Flexible and dynamic
-Interested in textiles/fibre arts industry and open to learning more
-Discreet and dedicated
-Problem solving
-Interested to take on more responsibility and grow with the shop


Background information:
Saltwater Rose is a busy and growing specialist online yarn shop providing some of the most beautiful yarns to handweavers, knitters, independent dye artists, textile artists, and textile designers. We also offer equipment, accessories, books, dyes, and much more! We ship worldwide and support a range of publications and websites via advertising. I have built the shop from a passion for beautiful materials and a love of textiles and fibre arts. I design nearly all the yarns myself and curate our whole collection. We adore our customers and aim to treat them like gold and support them on their textile journey! We’re introducing new products all the time and always looking to get better at what we do and how we support the fibre arts and textiles communities. I am a weaver, spinner, knitter, dyer, and many other things, and use all these materials and supplies myself. The shop is my baby and I’m looking for someone who will love it and care for it like I do!


Training and support:
-Training provided on overall role, and resources will be provided on technical data, materials, and so on, as well as on studio equipment and sampling as relevant. I need someone quick and organised who will get orders out extremely consistently, and has a positive attitude. The rest can be learned.
